Looking for a Columbus, Ohio Creative Photographer?
As an artist myself, I’m always looking for fellow creatives to photograph me and my family. It can be hard to find. To some, photography is purely a job, and to others it is an all-consuming passion. I fall in the latter camp. Even when I don’t have a camera in hand, my eyes are trained to notice beautiful light, compositions, and tender moments between people.
Are you looking for a Columbus, Ohio creative photographer to capture your family in a completely unique and original way?
I’d love to share my process for creating both artful and meaningful imagery for my clients.
STRUCTURE:
It may seem counterintuitive, but I thrive off of structure. I take the time to get to know my clients prior to their session, what they want captured, their family’s dynamic, what our plan for the session will be. I also have my own personal “must have” shots that I like to get at each session. Once I have a plan in place and those images are captured, I feel so much more free to get creative.
PLAY:
It’s fun for me AND for your children. I love to encourage movement, games and silliness, both because it allows kids’ true personalities to shine, and it gives me an opportunity to get creative.
FILM:
I incorporate film into every session. I love the colors and grain of the film itself, but I also love the way it shapes how I take photographs. Film is a naturally slower process, and every click of the shutter counts (and costs $$), so I spend a lot more time considering how I want my final image to turn out. This naturally leads to more creativity on my part. I also love to create double exposures (two photographs on the same frame), and I find that my digital double exposures never turn out as beautiful as they do on film.
TOYS:
As in photography toys. I always have a few crystals, prisms, colorful tape or pipe cleaners in my bag to put in front of my lens. A little goes a long way - I’d never photograph an entire session this way, but peppering in a few can lead to completely unique and unexpected photographs that spice up a gallery.
CONNECTION:
Finally, the most important element in any family photography session: connection. Creativity without a sense of connection between the subjects is not going to lead to very meaningful photographs. So while I crave creativity, it’s actually not my number one goal, which is to help you slow down, establish a sense of presence, and connect with your family, creating memories that you can look back on fondly.
So, are you interested in a unique photography experience? As a Columbus, Ohio creative photographer who specializes in colorful, intimate and playful family photo sessions, I hope you’ll reach out.
