When should you schedule your senior photography session? Here are the best times:
Summer:
At the end of Junior Year, book with your photographer for summer or early fall. Senior sessions typically take 1.5-2 hours depending on outfit changes, which is a long time to be out in cold weather. Opting for a date between June-September will ensure your teen is comfortable throughout the session. Yes, summer can be hot, but many photographers (including myself) schedule sessions late in the evening when the sun is setting and the temperatures have cooled.
Fall:
If you’re imagining a fall setting with colorful leaves as the backdrop to your portraits, you’ll want to get in touch with your photographer as early as possible to grab a date. This is prime photo-time, and the books fill early. Reach out at the start of senior year in order to grab a spot for late October/early November.
Spring:
Spring can be such a beautiful time for senior portraits, with spring blossoms, the return of warmer weather, and the general excitement of graduation. You’ll want to reach out to your photographer in February in order to grab a spot in spring (it’s another busy photo season that books quickly). Ideally you’ll want to schedule during the first three weeks of April, in order to get your photos back in time for May graduation announcements.
