Laid-back photos for your intimate wedding // Columbus, Ohio

Laid back photos? For a wedding?? Yes, it can be done. It’s all about figuring out what YOU want from your wedding day, and creating a plan with your photographer based on that. My goal is to capture your day as it naturally unfolds, to observe organic interactions between all of your cherished people, and document all of the things happening behind the scenes that pass so fleetingly in all the excitement. Aside from the time set aside for traditional portraits, I try to be more of a fly on the wall than a director. I don’t think your photographer should dominate your day or how it unfolds.

That said, I DO like to help clients determine how/when/where to get the formal shots required during a wedding. It’s so important to figure this out beforehand, both to reduce stress and also to give you time to consider what’s truly important to capture. Do you really need individual portraits with every cousin? It’s okay if the answer is yes, but if you’d rather spend your precious time doing other things, then I give you full permission to narrow down the list of must-haves! I make sure to take plenty of portraits of all the guests during the ceremony, dinner, dancing, etc - and you can always grab a portrait with someone special to you during the reception if we don’t get it directly after the ceremony.

I typically recommend that each person getting married take individual portraits and portraits with their bridesmaids/groomsmen prior to the ceremony, and then family portraits directly after the ceremony, ending with portraits of just the couple. You will be excited to go and join the party so keeping that time as brief as possible is essential, which is why we’ll make a list of must-haves beforehand. I also love to head back out with the couple right after dinner for 5-10 minutes of photos when it’s closer to sunset and you can be more intimate and secluded.

The rest of the time I truly hope you won’t even notice I am there!

Looking for a laid-back (but extremely responsible and professional) photographer for your small wedding? I’d love to chat. Reach out here and I’ll get in touch asap.
