Senior photos are a big deal. It’s already stressful enough finding the time to schedule photos during a hectic last year at school, figuring out outfits, hair, makeup etc. Thankfully there is no shortage of lovely places to take senior photos in Columbus, so once you determine the type of environment in which you’d like to take your photos, finding a good option is easy.

Here are some things to consider when looking for the best places for senior photos in Columbus, Ohio for YOU:

  1. Where are you comfortable?

Do you want the comfort of being indoors, in a studio? Or do you prefer an outdoor or urban setting? Is there a place that has sentimental value to you? Do you need to be somewhere quiet or are you comfortable with onlookers? There is no right or wrong answer - let your intuition and preferences guide you.

2. Are you a fan of bright colors or do you want a more muted palette?

If the former, consider choosing a location with fun murals, architecture, or colorful flowers. If the latter, you may want to find a location with softer tones, like a beach, creek bed, mulch paths, a simple studio setting, or buildings with earthy colored stones to serve as your backdrop.

3. When should you schedule?

Keep in mind that the time of day and the time of year will affect the colors as well.

You can get brighter, more vivid colors while the sun is up higher in the sky, while achieving much softer tones 20 minutes before and after sunrise or sunset. There is an abundance of color in spring while the flowering trees are blooming, and late summer and throughout fall, however in the fall you’ll have to be more mindful of cloudy days. Summer is a guarantee if you want sunshiny images.

4. Do you want a lot of variety in your images?

A bit of nature and architecture or murals? Locations like Schiller Park/German Village (shown in this gallery), many of the local downtowns (Worthington, Dublin and Westerville come to mind), Scioto Audubon Park and Inniswood Metro Garden offer a nice backdrop for capturing a wide variety of imagery. Other locations to consider are the murals at Easton and Franklinton, the flowering meadows at Sharon Woods and Homestead Park, or the gorgeous sunsets and blue waters at Alum Creek and Hoover. What appeals to you?
