A new year, a new name // Westerville, Ohio family photographer

training ‘em young

Because I have a hard time just resting when the opportunity presents itself, I’ve decided to use the slow month of January to begin the process of renaming my business. This has been a looong time coming, and I’d love to share a bit of the backstory with you. I came up with SEE Studio over a decade ago, when I was in cosmetology school at Aveda, which felt a lot like art school. I was deep in the business of creating colorful hair and makeup styles for fashion shows and classmates, and around the same time became interested in photography. It only made sense to start documenting the process, which resulted in fun, editorial photography/heavily styled portraits. I never considered that I might turn my hobby into a business, and therefore didn’t put much thought into the name, which was just my initials. A LOT has changed over the years and SEE hasn’t suited me for quite some time.

My subject matter gradually evolved from solo portraits to the art of family photography, as I grew my own family. The moments I’ve become drawn to and inspired by are the tender moments and flashes of joy a family experiences with one another, in their own unique way. I’m always on the search for someone’s genuine laugh. I try to catch people being themselves in between the “posed” images as those are always my favorites.

SEE Studio felt too stiff, too sterile of a name for the type of images I am trying to create: images that make your heart sing. So Heart Sung Photography is here! I’ll be taking my time implementing the new name so I don’t confuse too many people, but look for everything to switch over in the next few weeks.

Anything related to SEE Studio (print credits, coupons, etc) will transfer over to Heart Sung, so no worries there!

PS I tried to go back through photos to find some examples of that early work, but alas they are long gone. Sharing some images from that first year I switched over to family photography instead. A few clients from back then have stayed with me over the years, and for that I am so grateful, and for everyone else who has helped me grow on this journey.
